Organic Looms wants every visitor to be able to browse our rugs, read about how they are made and reach the showroom, whether they use a mouse, a keyboard, a screen reader or a magnifier.

What standard does this website follow?
We build and test this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. That is the standard most accessibility laws and courts point to, and it covers things like color contrast, keyboard access, text alternatives for images and clear page structure.
Each page is checked with the axe accessibility engine against the WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules, and then reviewed by a person. Automated tools catch a lot. They do not catch everything, which is why the manual pass matters.
What have we done to make the site easier to use?
A "Skip to Main Content" link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page, so nobody has to tab through the whole menu to get to the content. Every page has one main heading and a logical order of headings under it.
Photos carry written descriptions for screen readers. Text and buttons meet the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio. Menus, forms and the photo carousels work from the keyboard, form fields are labeled, and the carousels can be paused. If your device asks for reduced motion, the page animations are turned off.
We also removed the third-party accessibility overlay the site used to load. Overlays add a floating toolbar on top of a page but do not fix the underlying code, and many screen reader users find they get in the way. Fixing the pages themselves is the better approach.
Are there parts of the site that may not be fully accessible?
Yes, and we would rather say so. A few pieces come from other companies and we do not control their code: the Google Map, the Google reCAPTCHA check on our forms, and the warehouse inventory search, which is provided by our supplier. Our online inventory at /shop and our blog run on separate systems that we are bringing up to the same standard.
Some older press clippings are scanned magazine pages, so the article text inside the image cannot be read aloud. If you would like the text of any of them, ask and we will send it.

You are also welcome to visit the showroom at 2716 N 68th St #7 in Scottsdale, where we can walk you through any rug in person. We are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.
